Bitterman
January 5, 1940 – March 21, 2025
William Joseph Bitterman, 85, of Belvidere, IL, went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2025. He was born on January 5, 1940, in Buffalo, NY, the son of Herman and Mary (Goris) Bitterman. William was a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
William graduated from Williamsville Central High School in Williamsville, NY. in 1958 and served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962 as a chef, which sparked his lifelong love for cooking. After his service, he worked for over 20 years at Sears as a regional manager overseeing candy, toys, and Sears restaurants. Upon retiring, William proudly became the owner of two restaurants—BJ's at Fox Valley Mall and The Safe in Geneva, IL.
On September 4, 1965, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou (Steuernagel). Together, they shared nearly 60 years of marriage and raised three children. They enjoyed family road trips to New York, camping, and treasured quality time together. William and Mary Lou loved to travel, embarking on various vacations to Mexico and cruises, creating countless memories along the way.
William was passionate about spending time in nature, particularly fishing, golfing, and pheasant hunting. A positive and outgoing man, he loved people and was always ready with a smile. He was a man of strong faith and a long-time member of St. Peter of the Field Catholic Church in Rootstown, OH.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Bitterman; their children, Kim (Andy) Taylor, Amy (Robert) Przynosch, and Joseph (Jacqui Martin) Bitterman; grandchildren, Amanda (Jeffrey) Young, Meagan Taylor, Nicholas Taylor, Emily Taylor, Abigail Przynosch, and Lauren Przynosch.
