Warren P. Fitch, 89, of Poplar Grove died at Swedish American Hospital Tuesday July 26, 2005 after a fall. Warren was born on May 20, 1916 of the Fitch Family Farm on Business Routh 20 in Belvidere, IL. He was educated in Boone County Schools. Upon leaving high school, he joined the C.C.C. As the first volunteer for W.W. II from Boone County, on November 25, 1940, he joined the Army at the Chicago Induction Center. While in the 37th Infantry Division of the Army he was awarded a Purple Heart and two Oak Leaf Clusters at Bougainvillea, Luzon and Guadalcanal. He was discharged on October 11, 1945, with the rank on Staff Sergeant and had been awarded two Bronze Battle Stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with a Bronze Star, three Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifelong farmer, a life member of the County Line Grange, and the Sexton of Davis Cemetery for 45 years. Upon retiring, Warren moved to Poplar Grove.Warren was survived by one sister, Celestia (Lawrence-deceased) Matheson, one brother, Gordon (Dorothy) Fitch both of Belvidere, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; George and Alice (Tobyne) Fitch, sisters; Eleanor Fitch, Mae (Lester) Goodrich, Alida (Arnold) Peterson, and Rose (Jennings-living) Anderson, brothers; Melvin (Margrette-living), Jesse (Helen), Baby Boy Fitch, Raymond (Eleanor-living), Charles (Vickie-living), and Arthur (Louise-living).
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Davis Cemetery in his name.
