Obituary

Wanda Jean Smith, 75, of Belvidere died Friday, December 18, 2009 with her family by her side, from a courageous battle with cancer. Born December 9, 1934 in Swea City, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Vivian (Torrine) Nagel. Wanda graduated from Sherburn Minnesota High School, Class of 1952. She married Wayne L. Smith in Sherburn, Minnesota on June 19, 1955. Wanda and Wayne have lived in Belvidere since 1966, coming here from Fairmount, Minnesota. She was employed as the Office Manager for 26 years at the former Burton Motors in Belvidere. She retired in 1996. Wanda was a member of the First United Methodist Church and also Esther Circle at church. In addition to her church membership, she belonged to the Red Hat Society and a Auxiliary member of the American Legion. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; adopted daughter, Penny Lynn and her children, Sarah (Dan) Nelson and LeVon; a son, Perry Smith, all of Belvidere; and his children, Dustin Smith, and Ashley Smith, two great grandchildren, Amber Rose and Taylor James Nelson; two sisters, Patricia Wade, Sherrie (Larry) Jose; two brothers, Robert (Susie) Nagel; Mark (Linda) Nagel. She was preceded in death by parents, two sisters, Marilyn and Virginia in infancy, and a brother Jim.
