Obituary

Walter Smith, a beloved father, grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, at the age of 58. Walter's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.  Walter was born on October 9, 1965, in Elgin, IL. The son of Larry and Mary (Mason) Smith.

Walter spent 13 years working with the Illinois Tollway, where his hard work and dedication made a significant impact. A dedicated provider, Walter had a strong work ethic, whether that be driving a tow truck or detailing vehicles.

Outside of his professional life, Walter was a devoted father and grandfather. His family was his pride and joy, and he took immense pleasure in spending time with them. His sense of humor and quick wit was always sure to make you smile.

Walter had a passion for working on cars and found great satisfaction in tinkering with engines. He loved being outdoors, whether it was mowing his lawn or simply enjoying the fresh air. His love for nature and his knack for maintaining a beautiful yard were just a few of the many ways he embraced life's simple pleasures. He also was a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins and enjoyed a variety of music. His children share many fond memories of singing along with their dad on car rides.

Walter's legacy of hard work, love for his family, and his generous spirit will be remembered fondly. He is survived by his children; Mason (Canda Olson) Smith, Peyton Smith, Bayley Smith, the mother of his children; Michelle Seyller, sister; Alyce McCornack, nieces and nephews; Kaitlin Garland, Jessica Verdino, Kacie and Kyler, his partner; Stacy Anderson, bonus daughters; Michaela (Camron Dobbs) Pruitt and Lillien McKinney, grandchild; Harper as well as extended family and numerous friends who will miss him dearly.

Walter is welcomed into Heaven by his father; Larry Smith, his grandmother; Alice Young, as well as his Aunt Judy.

A celebration of Walter's life will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 4pm at Anderson Funeral Home. Located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL 61008. A Memorial visitation will take place at 2pm until the time of service.

Walter Smith lived a life full of purpose, joy, and laughter. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain a beacon of warmth and kindness for all who knew him.
