Jul 20, 1925 — Dec 25, 2018
Walter Gerald
Halladay, 93, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away December 25, 2018 in
Belvidere, Illinois. He was born July 20, 1925 in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
to Percy and Lillian (Fosbrook) Halladay. At age 17, Walter began work at GE
Canada as a Toolmaker apprentice. After high school, Walter served in the
Canadian Army during World War II and after, he continued his work as a
toolmaker and was eventually designing dental tools for Apogent. After
retiring, Walter became an engineering instructor at the University of Texas
Pan Am Campus for many years. Walter and Phyllis were avid travelers. They used
to travel all around Canada, Mexico, and the United States (including Alaska) in
their RV. He loved spending time with family and friends and felt extremely
blessed to have them in his life. Walter was a strong father figure, very
stoic, and was typical of the greatest generation while being gentle at the
same time. His love and spirit are irreplaceable.
Walter is loved and will be missed by his wife, Charlotte Halladay; sons, Michael (Lisa) Halladay and Brett Halladay; and grandchildren, Toby, Mike, Kelly, and Clare Halladay. He is preceded in death by his wives, Phyllis Elizabeth Halladay and Betty Iris Halladay; his parents, Percy and Lillian Halladay; and his brothers, Robert Percy Halladay and John Halladay.
A special thank you to amazing friends Paula Boothe (daughter of Betty Iris Halladay), Larry Wieland in Texas, and to the staff at both Heritage Woods and Northwoods Care Centre in Belvidere for all the love and devotion extended to Walter during the last 17 years of his life. The Halladay family is forever in your debt.
The family will be hosting a celebration of Walter's life that will take place at Northwoods Care Centre (a date and time are still pending). Memorials in Walter's name may be made out to the family to determine an organization at a later date. To light a candle or share a condolence please visit www.AndersonFCS.com.
