Viva Mae Carlson, 99, of Belvidere, Illinois, died peacefully January 12, 2019 in Belvidere. Born July 2, 1919 to Oliver and Nellie (Loveridge) Johnson in Belvidere. She married her sweetheart, the late Donald Carlson, April 8, 1947, in Harvard, Illinois. Viva attended and graduated from Belvidere High School and received her Business degree from Brown Business College. Viva also worked for Attorney Frank Covey for ten years as a secretary and book keeper prior to becoming a mom and staying home to care for her children. She then worked at Belvidere High School for twenty years as a cashier and book keeper before retiring. She enjoyed crocheting, craftwork, gardening, baking and attending any fair, especially the Boone County Fair. Viva was a 4- H leader, a member of the Farmerettes, Hobby club and The Moose.
Viva will be loved and missed by her children, Susan
Sterling (Greg Hanson), Melinda (Larry) Rubert and Jeff (Karen) Carlson;
grandchildren, Brett Rubert (Mandy Madriaga), Katy (Marty) Small, Hollie (Andrew)
Nelson, Jayme Carlson (Dakota Morris), Bethany (Dustin) Greenhow, Jack Carlson
and Eric Hanson; and great-grandchildren, Samantha Small, Charlie Nelson, Axel Greenhow,
Dale Small and Addison Rubert.
Viva was preceded in death by her parents; Oliver and Nellie
(Loveridge) Johnson; husband, Donald Carlson; and brother and sister-in-law,
Boyd and Marilyn Johnson.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff
of Maple Crest for the love and care they provided her for the past six years.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 17,
2019, at Evangelical Covenant, 220 E. Harrison Street, Belvidere, IL 61008.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Reverend Scott
Nellis will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Garden of Memories. In lieu
of flowers, memorials to the family to be established in Viva's name. To light
