Virginia "Jinny" Worrell, 84, of Belvidere went home to be with Jesus on April 29, 2015 after a short but relatively comfortable time with a loving Heartland Hospice team, and surrounded by family at Bickford Assisted Living in Rockford, IL She was born May 22, 1930 to David and Helen (Johannsen) Brown in Caledonia, IL. She married Everett Worrell on September 8, 1951 in Belvidere.
They have been mightily blessed by four children, nine grand-daughters, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was a faithful sister of Christ first, a loving wife of 64 years, and an inspiration to all of her family and extended family everywhere she went and served.
She graduated from Northern Illinois State College and spent a lifetime serving children as an early elementary teacher at Washington Grade School, Belvidere. Many people remember her as their loving 1st grade teacher.
She was an Elder and Deacon and Sunday school teacher of First Presbyterian Church, a bell ringer and choir member, member of Spare and Pairs and Presbyterian Women and in all things inspired by the Holy Spirit. She was a longtime leader in Bible Study Fellowship and more recently, Community Bible Study. A Co-leader with her husband in organizing and leading Spirt Alive spiritual awakening weekends at churches all around the US, Canada and Nova Scotia.
She grew up in 4-H, and was strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts and many Christian endeavors. She was a quilter, swimmer at the YMCA, and loved to garden, repair clothes for granddaughters, and most of all be a listening ear for them with prayerful advice when needed.
She is the mother of Elizabeth (Raymond) Withee and David (Joanne) Worrell; the grandmother of Rebecca (Peter) Girardin, Lydia (Steve) Riley, Naomi (Leo Gomez) Ziegler, Martha Ziegler, Margaret Worrell, Kathryn Worrell, Joanie (Jeremiah) Gee, Julie (Charlie) Brown and Joy (Nicolas) Derr. The Great Grandmother of Isabella, Dominick and Gianna Girardin, Madelyn, Katherine and Allison Riley, Trinidad, Leland, Isaiah and Amalia Ziegler, Ashley Withee, Krystal Vieau, Elizabeth and Tristan Gee, Annika and Elaina Brown and Alexander and Addison Derr. The Great-Great Grandmother of Kaylinn Withee and Jeffrey Vieau and she had many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her were her parents, David and Helen Brown, a brother, Gerald and son Everett Jr., and daughter, Deborah.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, May 2, 2015 in First Presbyterian Church, 221 North Main Street, Belvidere with Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Scottish Cemetery, Argyle. Memorials in Virginia's name can be given in care of Gideons International or First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W.
