Vernetta A. Ranken, 69, of Cherry Valley, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in her home following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 4, 1943 in Belvidere, Illinois; the daughter of Eugene and Anna (Stroud) Poe. Vernetta graduated from North Boone High School and attended Western University, Macomb, Illinois. She married Donald F. Ranken in Belvidere on December 29, 1962. Vernetta was an Executive Server at Chrysler Food Service. She enjoyed collecting glassware and paper weights. She made and collected Dolls as well as attending sporting events that her sons and granddaughters participated in and meeting former classmates for lunch. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Alabet Temple and Model T Ford Club International. She is survived by her husband, Don, Cherry Valley, IL; two sons, Richard R. (Beth) Ranken, Rockford, IL; Rodney (Valarie Laken) Ranken, Milwaukee, WI; two granddaughters, Allison (Jake) Maliszewski, Florence, KY; Anna (Brandon Lundberg) Ranken, Rockford, IL; a sister, Shirley (Lewis Mathes) Voiles, Greenville, TN; two nephews, Mark Voiles, Louisville, KY and Kevin Voiles, Rockford, IL; and special friends, Sue Dickson, Marsha Goodhart, Mary Sheley, and Karon Anderson. Vernetta was preceded in death by her parents. Vernetta's family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice Care for their help and care.
