Velma V. Vivian, 97, of Rockford, formerly of Belvidere, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in Provena St. Anne Center. Born on December 8, 1914 in Cincinnati, Iowa; the daughter of Jake and Ethel (Davis) Wessel. Velma graduated from Exiline, Iowa High School. She was married to James T. Vivian in Rockford, Illinois on April 9, 1943. Velma worked on the assembly line for Elco Tools as well as farmed with her husband. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church as well as the church's Women's Guild; member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 1052; member of Riley Grange and volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital auxillary. Velma is survived by three grandchildren, James M. (Susan) Vivian, Polo, Illinois; Theresa L. (Randall) Churchill, Janesville, Wisconsin; Jennifer B. (Tony Chilson) Vivian, Belvidere, Illinois; six great-grandchildren, Sara Cavanagh, Brandon J. (Angie Sipe) Vivian, Heather L. Swanson, Arika B. Lumbreras, Ramon J. Lumbreras, Colin R. Lumbreras; four great-great grandchildren, Julien Breit, Kilah R. Vivian, Nevaeh A. Swanson, Brandon J. Vivian, Jr.; a sister, Bonnie Sparks, Centerville, Iowa; a special friend, Linda Cypret. She was preceded in death by parents, husband in 1998, son, James G. Vivian, in 1994; a sister, Stella Dieter; two brothers Verd Wessel and Noble Wessel. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice and Deb Strait for the expert care given to their grandmother.
