September 26, 1935 – October 18, 2023
Thomas Richard Moss, 88, of Poplar Grove, IL passed away with grace on October 18, 2023 surrounded by family. He was born on September 26, 1935 in Paducah, Kentucky; the son of William Harlan Moss and Maude Hattie (Andrecht). On January 10, 1959, he married the love of his life, Dolores Marcellus, and together they shared eight children and 60 years of marriage. Thomas proudly served in the United States Military. His service extended between 10 years in the United States Air Force, a year with the Wisconsin Army National Guard, and 8 ½ years in the Army Reserves. He remained a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the American Legion Post #77.
He is loved and will be missed by his children: Tanya M. (Thomas) Gureck of Ohio, Andrea S. (Ben) Moss-Kokett of Little Falls, Minnesota, Thomas A. Moss of Bardstown, Kentucky, Daniel E. Moss of Belvidere, IL, Michael J. (Amy) Moss of Belvidere, IL, Michelle A. (Todd) Moss-McDonald of Lakewood, IL, and William L. Moss of Loves Park, IL. He is also survived by his brothers, William (Barbara) Moss of Paducah, KY, Frank (Elma) Moss of Indiana and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was dedicated to his country, his family, and his community. He worked for many years at GTE, and retired in November of 1981. Thomas was also a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Moss, his parents; son, Patrick N. Moss, and brother, Joe Moss.
Thomas' visitation will be Monday, October 30th between the hours of 9-11am at Anderson Funeral Home, located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL. Funeral service to follow at 11am. Burial to follow at Highland Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project . The family would like to thank ProMedica Hospice and Home Instead as well as all the private caregivers who were instrumental in maintaining his comfort throughout this time.
