Thomas H. Kniep, 89, of Poplar Grove, IL passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, February 16, 2021 at Cherryvale Place. Tom was born March 12, 1931 in rural Nebraska the son of Henry and Verna (Kuhr) Kniep. Tom began his banking career while in high school in 1947. Following his graduation, he served our country during the Korean War in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1952 through 1954. After his military service, Tom married Fayne Meyer on November 6, 1955 in Stanton, NE. Tom and Fayne, along with their young family moved to Poplar Grove in 1962 where he established himself at Poplar Grove State Bank and enjoyed a career that spanned more than 50 years of serving the northern Illinois communities. Tom made his spiritual home at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church and was also a long-time member of the Poplar Grove Lions Club. When not at the bank, his favorite joy was to spend time with his family.
Tom is loved and will be missed by his wife, Fayne; sons Kevin (Sandra) Kniep and Kent (Teri) Kniep; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; daughter in-law Barb Kniep; son in-law, Patrick Cocquyt; brother in-law, Clayton Snover; nieces and nephews. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, son, Kirk A. Kniep and daughter, Karen Cocquyt; sister, Carol Snover.
The walk-through visitation for Tom will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2021 at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, 105 E. Grove Street, Poplar Grove, IL. In keeping with recommended guidelines for Covid-19, face masks and social distancing will be observed. Private family services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the church with Rev. Dr. Tercio B. Junker, pastor officiating. A recording of Tom's funeral service will be available to be viewed on his obituary page at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services website. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in care of Poplar Grove United Methodist Church in Tom's name. To share a memory please visit www.AndersonFCS.com.
