Aug 2, 1933 — Jun 1, 2015
Roscoe, IL
Thomas E. Carrell, Jr., 81, died peacefully at his Roscoe home in the company of his family on June 1, 2015. Born August 2, 1933, Tom and his sister Patricia were raised by their mother, Viola Dahlgren Carrell, in Lake Forest. His father, Thomas Edward Carrell, served as a glider pilot in World War II. Tom was proud to serve as an Army MP in postwar Germany in 1953-54. Tom has fond memories of boyhood summers in Rhinelander and Eagle River, WI, and worked until 1995 as a production engineer in the Aircraft Division at Barber Colman Company, Loves Park. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Jane Ryan Carrell, children Rebecca Carrell Hehir (Sean), Eddie Carrell (Erin) and Brian Carrell, sister Patricia Carrell Dodd, half-sisters Barbara Carrell Cooper (Ken) and Liz Carrell Carroll (Evan), half-brother William Patrick Carrell, grandchildren Nathaniel, Aubrey and Nicholas Hehir, and, Adeline, Eiley Bea, and Ashlyn Carrell, cousin Barbara Everitt Kelley (Tom), and too numerous to mention nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his niece Jodi Dodd Riccilli and brother- and sister-in-law John Wynn and Shirley Halverson Ryan.
Tom enjoyed woodworking and camping with his young family. He and Jane joined the Ryans in a trip to Ireland in 2004. His special joys were watching the birds in the backyard, woodworking and design. He served on the Boone County Planning Commission and built a home on Countyline Road, Roscoe, in the '70's. Tom was a devoted husband and father, hardworking, generous, an engineer to his core, and proud of his children.
