Obituary

Thomas "Tommy" Lovan, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of his community, passed away on September 4, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on October 10, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan. Tommy's life was a testament to dedication, service, and unwavering love for his family and community.

Tommy married the love of his life, Candy, on September 16, 1978. Together they shared nearly 46 years of marriage and 3 beautiful children. He proudly served as a Marine during the Vietnam War, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty and courage. After returning home, Tommy built a successful career as the owner of Northern Illinois Trenching, a business he managed with integrity and passion for 39 years.

In addition to his professional achievements, Tommy was an active and devoted member of Community Bible Church. He sang as part of the worship team, served as an elder, and he was dedicated to maintaining the CBC property behind the scenes. He was a true representation of possessing a servant's heart while asking for nothing in return. His life is a testimony of God's transforming grace.

Tommy's greatest joys came from his roles as a father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Candy Lovan, his children; Layne (Erin) Lovan, Erin (Chad) Mashinter, Leanne (Matthew) Ramsden, and his beloved grandchildren; Samuel and Faith Lovan, Roman Sunday, Carmine Mashinter, and Jack Ramsden. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn McGaughan, his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family as well as his Community Bible Church family and a wide circle of friends who were touched by his kindness and love.

Tommy is welcomed into Heaven by his parents; Woodrow Wilson Lovan and Harretta Cumi (Layne) Lovan; his siblings; Debbie Lovan and Jeanette Jackson, as well as his in-laws; Bruce and Joy Rushton.

A memorial celebration to honor Tommy's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Community Bible Church, located at 5950 35th St, Rockford, IL 61109. Visitation will begin at 2pm with service to follow at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gideons International or Bravehearts Veterans Program, reflecting Tommy's spirit of giving and his commitment to supporting others.

Tommy Lovan will be remembered for his hard work, his steadfast faith, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and the countless lives he touched. "Well done, my good and faithful servant…" Matthew 25:21
