Belvidere, IL

Theodore William "Ted" Vickers, 55, of Belvidere, IL passed away peacefully, Friday afternoon, February 3, 2017 in his home surrounded by his loving family.  Ted was born December 14, 1961 in Geneva, Illinois the son of James and Carol (Cikanek) Vickers. Ted was a lifelong fire fighter.  From age of 18 until coming to Belvidere, Ted served as Assistant Chief for the Lacon-Sparland Volunteer Fire Department. For over 28 years, Ted served the Belvidere Fire Department and protected our community.  Ted joined the Belvidere fire Department on January 2, 1986, became an E.M.T. in 1988 and retired on May 12, 2014.  He received over 18 certifications including an Arson Investigator, Juvenile Fire Setters Interventionist, EMT and Hazmat amongst many others.

Ted made his spiritual home at Christ the Rock Lutheran Church.  When not at the fire department, Ted worked as a mason, plasterer, and cement, a trade that he learned from his father. He also enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and visiting his family in Hawaii, Washington and Arizona.

Ted is loved and will be missed by his son, Edward of Belvidere; mother, Carol; siblings, Kimberly (Howard) Grossman Vickers of Seattle, WA, Timothy Vickers of Phoenix, AZ, David Vickers of Kauai, Hawaii, Rebecca Vickers of Chillicothe, IL. Nieces and nephews, Michael Sharick, Laura Sharick, Christopher Oltman, Gabriel Foster, Matthew Vickers, Samuel Vickers; and his dog, Brittney.  Ted is preceded in death by his father, James; and brother, Matthew.

Visitation will be held from 4:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL.  The Fire Fighters and Public Service Ceremonial Walk through and Tribute will be held at 6:00 p.m.  Memorials in Ted's name may be given in care of the Salvation Army.  To light a candle or to share a memory, please visit www.AndersonFCS.com
