Mrs. Sybil E. Summers, 95, long time Chicago (Sweet Home Chicago) resident lastly living in Belvidere/Rockford, went to her eternal home with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Monday, December 10, 2018 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago,Ill. Born October 1, 1923 in Hartselle, Alabama (Sweet Home Alabama), , Daughter of the late Ervin Robert McElroy and Sydney Ellen Moss McElroy. She married James Hobson Summers in the state of Georgia. Once living in Chicago, was employed by various companies in Chicago (she often worked along side of her sister the late Melba Lucas in Chicago, Lava Lamp Lite Ma Browns Pickle Factory, Motorola and the Chicago Forum Cafeteria. Sybil was a born again Christian in her 40's and devoted and faithful soul winner leading many family friends, neighbors and strangers to the Lord. Sybil loved to sing old time country music with her brother Sidney McElroy and sing gospel music while her brother played the guitar. She could often be heard singing while doing her chores or in the middle of the night. She attended Baptist Churches in the cities where she lived and visited other churches with her children/grandchildren. She was a member of the Choir and a Sunday School in her younger years. Sybil's priority was her family. Sybil loved her journey in life with her parents and siblings that preceded her in passing and always till she went home with the Lord loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. For anyone who knew Sybil she loved going out to eat and enjoying her snacks at any given time. Sybil also loved her beloved pets. She was fond of Collie Dogs (Lassie Dogs) and Siamese cats.
Sybil is loved and missed by her four (4) living children, Paulette Carol Summers (Erickson); children, Rhonda Susan, Mary Kay, Rebecca Lou, Carol Renee, Cynthia Ann, Valerie Jean, the late Luanne Elizabeth, Crissandra Rose, Jennifer Lynn, Carrie Lynn, Angela Michelle, Lisa Marie. Her oldest Son Larry Dwight Summers daughter-in-law, Nancy Summers; grandchildren, Robert Summers, Robin Ann Summers Ostrander (Shawn) , middle daughter Pamela Joyce Summers (Cook) and son in law Verlon Cook II and the late grandson Verlon Cook III (Baby Cookie) and youngest daughter Deborah Ann Summers (and her youngest and 16th granddaughter Mary Ellen Amanda Grace aka Amanda Ellen to Sybil her Grandmother. And nephews Lee, Ronnie Teddy, Michael McElroy. She is preceded in death by her husband James H. Summers and Raymond Aguirre and her parents Ervin Robert and Sydney Ellen McElroy, son, Roger Aguirre, and brothers, Leon McElroy and Sidney Clay McElroy and sisters Melba McElroy (Lucas) and baby girl sister who went to heaven at birth. Two grandchildren Verlon Cook III (Baby Cookie) and Luanne Elizabeth Kostakis. One nephew Michael McElroy.
A celebration of Sybils life will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, December 21st, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 1255 W. Jackson St, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Rev. David Love officiating followed by a luncheon and a Chapel service will be held at 2:00 p.m. prompt at Montrose Cemetery in Chicago, Ill followed by her burial. A viewing/memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a special hour of music and eulogies from 6:30 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services.
