Susan Nedine Hunter, 81, of Rockford, IL, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022. Susan was born August 6, 1940, the daughter of Ervil and Gladyce Rapp, in Aurelia, Iowa. Along with her four siblings, she grew up across the street and graduated from Aurelia High School in 1958. She double majored in Physical Education and Speech/Drama and graduated with a B.A. degree in Education from Wayne State College, Wayne, Nebraska on December 20, 1961.

Susan married Dayton Howard Hunter on December 30, 1961 in Aurelia, Ia. Dayton's career took the couple out to Fullerton, California, where they began their family, having two children, Deena and Kent. In 1966 they returned to the Midwest and settled in Rockford, Illinois. Their family grew as they welcomed Alan and Derek. Susan and Dayton served as faithful members of Christ United Methodist Church in Rockford, IL., where they made many lifelong friends.

Susan's "full time" job was being a wife, homemaker, and mother to four very active children, but she still found time to be very active at CUMC. She volunteered in the Christian Education Department and was a part of the Wedding Guild. Susan served on various committees over the years, directed numerous religious dramas and even collaborated in writing a few. She also worked part time at CUMC running the copy machine. Susan found time to sell Tupperware and achieved manager level status. In her free time, Susan enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting and gardening. Many projects were made for her family and friends. She really REALLY loved supporting her children and grandchildren by attending their activities. From school programs and dance recitals to soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, track, tennis and volleyball, Susan could be found either coaching on the sideline or cheering in the crowd.

Susan is loved and will be truly missed by her children; Deena (David) Lantz, Kent (Alicia) Hunter, Alan (Jodi) Hunter, Derek (Jenny) Hunter; her grandchildren, Alyssa Lantz, Jessie Lantz, Andrew Lantz, Heather (Ivan Gonzalez) Christiansen, Mitchell (Krystal) Christiansen, Garrett (Haley) Hunter, Aaron (Chelsea) Hunter, Leah Hunter, Ryan Hunter, Hailey Hunter, Kaci Hunter, Rylee Hunter; her great grandchildren, Ethan, Oliver, McKynlee, Barrett and Gentry; and in laws, Jerry Bruce, Susan Rapp, Jean (Tony) Garcia, Gordon Hunter, P.V. George, Lowell Hunter; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Ken, Darrell, and Terry Rapp, her sister Joleen Bruce, her infant daughter LuEllen and grandson Cory, and her in-laws, Roberta Rapp, Donald Hunter, Vern Hunter, Lucille Olson, Jean Hunter, Carol George, and Karen Hunter.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Rd Rockford, IL 61107. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
