Stanley Warren Schoonover, 85, of Belvidere, IL died peacefully May 11, 2021 in Rockford, IL. He was born April 18, 1936, in Richland Center, WI, son to Arthur and Bessie (Mann) Schoonover. Stanley married his sweetheart, Beverly Ghastin, September 6, 1958 in Sextonville, WI. He graduated high school, worked at Sundstrand and became a truck driver for 31 years with Cassens Transport, in Belvidere. He proudly served in the United States Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and volunteered with the men's group and helped make the church pancake breakfasts. He also belonged to the Antique Tractor Club and Belstone Fishing Club in Belvidere. He loved fishing, camping and gardening. He retired October 31, 2002 and soon began to snowbird with Beverly in Arizona.
Stanley will be loved and missed by his wife; sons, Bryan and Bruce (Pamela) Schoonover; grandchildren, Angela (Richard) Howell, Crystal (Zach Hyser) Murphy, Joshua (Allison) Montgomery; nine great-grandchildren, Skylar, Emma, Ethan, Keely, Fallyn, Maddie, Dominic, Liam, Makenzie; and multiplenieces and nephews, Lillian, Carolyn, Nancy, Margie, David, Larry, Barbara, and Dwight; and sister-in-law, Verna Schoonover. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Ruth Peckham, George Schoonover, Byron Schoonover and Betty Nelson.
The visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021, at First United Methodist Church, 610 Bonus Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Face masks and social distancing will be observed.Rev. Jim Bell will officiate. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery.
