Socorro “Coco” Bernier, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Coco was born on November 14, 1940, in Mexico. In the early 1970s, she moved to Belvidere, Illinois, where she built a life centered around family, hard work, love, and community.

Coco was an extremely caring woman and a true hard worker. She taught herself English and was incredibly proud when she became a United States citizen. She took great pride in her home and yard, especially her flowers. Her beautiful yard was recognized for Yard of the Month several times.

Coco loved people and was a true social butterfly. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, family parties, and, most of all, spending time with the people she loved. For more than 20 years, on the Sunday following Father’s Day, Coco hosted a celebration for Our Lady of Guadalupe in her yard. What began as a family tradition grew into a wonderful gathering, with more than 150 people coming together each year to celebrate. Coco loved opening her home and sharing her joy with others.

She was also known for her wonderful cooking and loved sharing food with family and friends. Her rice and salsa were always a hit and were enjoyed by many.

Coco was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Max; her children, Jose (Sandra) Ibarra, Oskar (Lisa) Ibarra, Roberto (AnneMarie) Ibarra, Ricardo (Julie) Ibarra, and Sergio Ibarra; her grandchildren, Alberto, Oskar, Arianna (Michael), Aric, Isabella (Patrick), Nico, Xaiver, and Diego; and her great-grandchildren, Leo and Mia.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Luis Bernier; her daughter, Teresa Bernier; and her mother, Maria Rodriguez.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 West Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, Illinois.

The family of Coco would like to extend a special thank you to Sanctuary Hospice for the love, care, and attention they provided to their mom over the years. Their compassion and kindness will always be remembered.

Coco leaves behind a beautiful legacy of family, friendship, hard work, laughter, and love. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
