Obituary

Shirley Mae (Shook) Trueblood, 92, of Belvidere, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2025, when she peacefully passed away at her home in Belvidere surrounded by her family. Shirley was a woman of remarkable spirit and boundless love, whose passions for gardening, traveling, and her family left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Shirley was born on December 5, 1932 in Belvidere, Illinois to Homer and Pearl Shook. She was a lifelong Belvidere resident with an extended family (11 brothers and sisters) who found love at an early age when she met and married her sweetheart, Randall ("Randy") Trueblood, on January 1, 1950 in Belvidere. Together they had three children: Linda, Mark, and Gary. While raising her children, Shirley worked for Central Rubber in Belvidere, IL before retiring to enjoy her later years with Randy. Randy passed away in the fall of 2022, and Shirely spent her remaining years in Belvidere with her family close by.

Shirley was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Belvidere and attended Cortez Baptist Church in Bradenton, Florida where she and Randy spent their winters for over 30 years. Shirley loved to travel with Randy and their friends including visiting over 70 countries and all 50 states. Her love of traveling was only eclipsed by her passion for gardening as she would spend countless hours tending to the flowers in her garden. If she was not in the garden, Shirley could be found spending time in her two other favorite places: the patio swing on her deck and the sunroom in the back of the house. Shirley's house was always open to family and friends and she never turned down a friendly game of cards (including her favorites of Five Crowns and Skip-Bo).

Shirley is survived by her daughter Linda Lehman; son Gary (Tami) Trueblood; grandchildren, Steve (Alicia) Lehman, Jeremy (Misha) Trueblood, David (Shivangi) Trueblood, Michael (Annemarie) Trueblood, Lora (Erik) Trueblood, Beth Webber, and Peter Trueblood; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Norma, Mary, and Joanne and brother Gordy; and numerous extended family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Randy Trueblood; parents Homer and Pearl Shook; brothers Fred, Ron, Dean, and Virgil and sisters Marie, Jeriene, and Carol; son Mark; and infant daughter Patricia.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Faith Baptist Church, 1637 7th Avenue, Belvidere, IL. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Jeremy Weary will immediately follow the visitation with burial to follow at Belvidere Cemetery. In her honor, memorials can be made to Faith Baptist Church or Gideons International. Shirely's family would like to recognize Northern Illinois Hospice (especially Vanessa and Keisha) for their kindness and support during this past month.
