Capron, ILShirley M. Johnson, 77, of Capron, IL died Sunday morning, July 1, 2012 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a lingering illness. Shirley was born February 23, 1935 at home, on the farm in rural Boone County, IL, the daughter of James Leonard and Hazel Della (Spires) Smith. She married Everett J. Johnson on August 17, 1957 in Beloit. Shirley ran Shirl's Tap and Grill for 17 years, and was a substitute rural mail carrier. Shirley was a member of Capron United Methodist church where she was a member of the U.M.W. and served many church dinners. She was Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed spending time at the cabin. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed her flower gardens. Shirley is loved and will be missed by her children Charles (Mary) Johnson, Jeffery (Joanne) Johnson, Craig Johnson, Glenn (Tina) Johnson, Garry Johnson, Cathy (Pat) Henderson; brothers Ed (Elaine) Smith, Ruelle (Margaret) Smith; sisters Eleanor Hardt, Marilyn Cox; brothers in-law Duane "Buckwheat" Johnson, Rodger Johnson; sisters in-law Mary Ellen Smith, Sharlet Johnson; grandchildren Nicole (Bryan) Ayre, Brett and Janelle Johnson, Charles Johnson; step-grandchildren Bradley Johnson, Stephanie (Bill) Britton, Adam (Cathy) Henderson; step great grandchildren Reed William Britton, Lily and Samantha Henderson; special friends Scott, Deb, Todd and Mark. The family would like to thank Capron Rescue Squad, OSF St. Anthony Medical Center and Staff, OSF Hospice, Keenage Center-Meredith and Poplar Grove Fire Department for their care and compassion.Shirley is predeceased by her parents, husband, Everett; brothers Ray and Jim; sisters Lois Bonsall, Lucille Nagel, Margaret Johnson, Della Shutt, Annie Johnson.
