Sam Wimberley, 94, of Belvidere died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 6, 2008 in his home. He was born February 22, 1914 in Newman, Illinois; the son of John and Rosa Belle (Turbeyville) Wimberley. Sam was married to Marie Reed in Mount Vernon, November 22, 1932. They moved to the Belvidere area and raised four children. Sam was an active member of Evangelical Covenant Church. He was a Journeyman in the Sheet Metal trade. He retired at 70 but never stopped fixing things whenever asked. Sam was an avid bike rider, having ridden his bike over 1,000 miles the year he turned 90. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Stroup, Belvidere; son, John Wimberley, Carbondale; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jan Wimberley; and son-in-law, J.R. (Faith) Heikes. Waiting in heaven are his parents, sister Nora, brother Carl, wife Marie, daughter Janet Heikes, son Jerral Wimberley, and grandsons, Joel Alligood and Jimmy Wimberley.
