Samuel S. Henderson, Jr., 83, of Rockford, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 in Biltmore Health Care Center following a long illness. Born January 14, 1925 in Belvidere, Ill., the son of Samuel S. and Iolene (Gallagher) Henderson, Sr. A Rockford resident since 1995 going there from Boone County. He worked in manufacturing for Arnold Engineering, Essex Wire Co. and later for Woodward Governor before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing, winning his flight in the Rockford Men's Open in the early 1970's. He is survived by his wife, Doris, Rockford; six children, Mark Henderson, Linda (Dick) Henderson , both of Belvidere; Perly (Gail) Hahn, Peoria, Ill.; Leslie (Deb) Hahn, San Antonio, Tex.; Leonard (Jan) Hahn, Machesney Park, Ill.; Robert Henderson, Rockford, Ill.; ten grandchildren, Julie (Cesar) Tapia, Scott Henderson, Nathan (Dawn) Hahn, Melanie (Aaron) Dawkins, Marissa Hahn, Teresa (Jake) Delgado, Matthew Hahn, Samantha Henderson, Courtney Henderson, Elizabeth Henderson; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Linda) Henderson, Belvidere, Ill.; and longtime friends, James Van Fleet and Carl Engaldo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Patricia Bruns, and nephew, Michael Bruns.
