Ruth Peterson of Bloomington, Indiana passed away peacefully at her home on September 11, 2015.  She was born on October 5, 1937 in Woodstock, Illinois to the late Jerome L. and Margaret G. Johnson.

Ruth grew up in Capron, Illinois and was a proud member of the North Boone High School Class of 1955 and her classmates remained friends for life.   Ruth attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin and studied music at the Conservatory.   She finished her undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois.

Following graduation Ruth was a elementary school teacher. A gifted vocalist, she also was a member of the chorus of the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

In 1961 Ruth married Bryce R. Peterson.  They moved to Newark, Ohio in 1969 and raised their family there.  Ruth was a soloist in the Adult Choir of the Second Presbyterian Church of Newark. She was also a member of Monday Talks, Progressive Club and the P.E.O. sisterhood.

Ruth delighted in her family. She was a devoted mother to Lisa and John and a loving grandmother to Abby, Charlie, Kate and Gabriel.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bryce R. Peterson, sister Janette L. Johnson and her parents.

Survivors include sister Lorraine Carmichael of Belvidere, IL; daughter Lisa Peterson Hackley and son-in-law John Hackley of Columbus, OH; son John Peterson and daughter-in-law Rebecca Peterson and grandchildren Abigail, Charlie, Kate and Gabriel Peterson of Indianapolis, IN.

A funeral  service will be held at 10:30 a.m on Saturday September 19, 2015 at the Capron Lutheran Church, 155 South Second Street, Capron, Illinois with Pastor Jessica Harren officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m.
