Obituary

Ruth Mae Clogston, 89, died September 18, 2011 at a local health care facility with her loving family by her side. She was born in Davenport, IA on May 23, 1922, the daughter of Henry W. and Leona (Riesen) Meier. She attended Davenport schools and high school in Rockford, IL, where she was a member of the class of 1940, Rockford Central High's last graduating class. She then attended the University of Madison, Wisconsin and attended Rockford College, IL, where she earned her degree in Elementary Education. Her post-graduate work was done at Rockford College and Northern Illinois University. Ruth taught elementary education in the Belvidere, IL School District and worked as a substitute teacher for District 100, Belvidere for 4 years. While in Belvidere, she taught 3rd and 4th grades at Perry School for 23 years. She was an officer and member of the Perry School P.T.A. in Belvidere and a member of the Belvidere Jr. Women's Club. She was a board member of Maplecrest Auxiliary and a member of the Alpha-Delta-Kappa Teacher's Sorority. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and member of Alpha-Chi-Omega-Kappa Chapter at the University of Wisconsin. She was also involved with the Women's Club in Belvidere, the Moose Auxiliary, and BETA-Retired Elementary Teacher's Association-serving as treasurer. She also was a member of the Boone County Retired Teacher's Association in Belvidere. Ruth was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and St Elizabeth Guild of Belvidere and also a member of Church of Our Saviour in New Hampshire. She moved to Amherst, NH to reside with her son Scott and daughter-in-law, Pamela in July of 2005. Survivors include her children, Kenneth A. Hadfield, Jr. and wife Sherry of Florida, Scott L. Hadfield and wife Pamela of Amherst, NH, step-daughter, Linda Graham and Dennis Palka of IL, step-son Steve Clogston and wife Yvonne of IL; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Kenneth A Hadfield Sr. in 1958, her second husband Raymond A Clogston in January of 1988, and her granddaughter, Denise Graham.
