Russell K. Anderson, 90, of Belvidere, IL went to be with the Lord, Friday morning, December 9, 2016 at Crimson Pointe in Rockford. Born July 26, 1926 in Newman Grove, NE, he was the son of Walter and Olena (Nelson) Anderson. Russell was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, where he was stationed in the Pacific on the Naval aircraft carrier, USS Tyconderoga. He married the love of his life, Bernice Nelson on May 4, 1947 in Kirkland, IL. Russell was a farmer for all of his life, and the past president of the Farm Bureau. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, and was on the building committee during the planning for the new construction of the church. Russell loved snowmobiling, bowling, waterskiing, boating and traveling the world. He cherished the times he played poker with his farm and business fellows at the Wallem hangar at the Poplar Grove Airport.
He is loved and missed by his children, Linda (Ed Flanagan) Way, Larry (Libby Roth) Anderson, Dianne (John Drall) Onley, and Connie (Bob) Moore; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; 2 son-in-laws, Tom Way and Leland Onley; daughter-in-law, Debbie Anderson; brother, Orlie Anderson and sister-in-law, Juanita Anderson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his grandson, Grant, and his homecare helper, Lydia, who cared for Russ in his home until he went to Crimson Pointe, and also Crimson Pointe and Northern IL Hospice for their excellent and kind care of Russell.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial in Highland Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Northern IL Hospice.
