Roy Garland West, 75 of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away, Wednesday evening, June 15, 2016 in his home. He was born on February 3, 1941 in Monterey, TN, son of Lewis and Willie Ermine West. Roy graduated from Monterey High School in Monterey, TN and went on to join the United States Navy, serving on the USS Shangri-La. He married the love of his life, Sharon Lois Profitt on May 20, 1965. Roy was employed by Verizon Communications before retiring. He was a member of Poplar Grove United Methodist Church and the Poplar Grove Lions Club. Roy was an avid and excellent golfer, having attained 2 holes in one. He enjoyed bowling at Dodge Lanes for many years. Most of all, he loved, treasured and spoiled his wife in many ways.

Roy is loved and will be missed by his wife, Sharon; several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, 105 East Grove Street, Poplar Grove, IL 61065. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Poplar Grove Lions Club or Poplar Grove United Methodist Church.
