Roy S. Carlson, 83, of Rockford, formerly of Belvidere, died Saturday, February, 24, 2007 in Springwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. Born May 30, 1923 in Genoa, Nebraska, son of John R. and Axelina (Swanson) Carlson. Roy was employed as a Header Die Repairman for Cam Car Taptite Textron – Belvidere for 15-1/2 years. Veteran of WWII serving the Navy in the Pacific Theatre on board the USS New Mexico BB-40. Former member of Kirkland United Methodist Church; member of the USS New Mexico Reunion and John Hugo Kaiser V.F.W. Post #1461. Former member of Fairdale Men's Club. He is a graduate of Genoa, Nebraska High School, class of 1940. Roy is survived by two daughters, Susan Carlson, Rockford; Cathy Carlson, Sleepy Hollow, Ill.; 3 grandchildren, Jonica Trude; Rockford; Bethany Greer, Bethesda, MD; Carrisa Greer; Wilmington, NC; a brother, Ralph Carlson; preceded in death by his parents and brother, Albert Carlson.
