Roy Oliver Bowers, 94, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully,Saturday morning, June 12th, 2021 at Wesley Willows after a sudden illness. Roy was born August 12th, 1926 in Rockford, IL the son of Charlie & Hattie Lightheart Bowers. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Gunner's Mate Third Class. Roy married Dortha A. "Dot" Finch on June 17th, 1945 in San Francisco, CA. They enjoyed seventy years and eight days of marriage together. Roy was a Pattern Maker, making patterns out of wood for metal castings. Roy was also a pilot, who helped build the scale model of the WWI Jenny in his basement that hung in the Machesney Park Mall and is now in the EAA Museum in OshKosh, WI. Roy and Dot enjoyed traveling together and were blessed to have taken many cruises together. Roy made his spiritual home at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church.

Roy is loved and will be missed by his son Dan (Yvonne) Bowers of Davenport, FL; granddaughters Leah (Dan) Bouchard of Rockford, IL, Cynthia (Vicente) McCumber of Poynette, WI, and Jennifer Keckler of Rockford, IL; great-grandchildren Mason, Allicen and Davin Bouchard; Miranda and Raven McCumber, and Caleb Keckler. Roy is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dortha.

A private family service will take place. Burial at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded.
