Rose M. Johnson, 82 of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, October 24, 2015 in Swedish American Heart Hospital after a sudden illness. Rose was born January 6, 1933 on a farm outside of Shullsburg, WI, the daughter of Sylvester and Alice (Carey) Snider. She attended Muldoon Catholic High School for 2 years and graduated from East High School with the class of 1950. Rose retired from N.C.R after 22 years of service. She was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church and St. Edward's Ladies Guild. Rose enjoyed traveling, achieving her life-long goal of visiting all 7 continents. She loved being around children, volunteering in the Pediatric Department of Swedish American and serving as a reading tutor at three different grade schools. Rose was also a member of R.S.V.P., Rockford Hiking Club and Red Hat Society.
Rose is loved and will be missed by her children, Janis Johnson of Huntington Beach, CA, Kathleen Johnson of Belvidere, Michael L. (Kim) Johnson of Menlo Park, CA, Jill Johnson of Huntington Beach, CA; grandchildren, David (Anna) Hansell, Kate Hansell, Kellie Hansell, Andrew Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Emilie Johnson; brother, Chuck (Darla) Garlock; brother in-law Ken Lester; sister in-law, Cindy Dean, many nieces and nephews and her granddog, Napoleon. Rose is preceded in death by her father, Sylvester; mother, Alice Magnuson; brothers, Joe, Jack and Jim Snider; sister, Sylvia Lester and child, Michael.
Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 29, in St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Dr., Rockford with Rev. John Evans celebrating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, in Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL with the Christian Wake Service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorials can be given to the American Heart Association in Rose's name.
