Obituary

Roosevelt Dennis was born August 24th, 1946 in Mississippi and died December 18th, 2024.

Roosevelt is survived by his wife, Sandra Dennis after 53 years of marriage; Son and Daughter: John "Regi" Dennis and Kimberly Dennis; Siblings: Erma Dennis, Geraldine Hill, Leroy Dennis; Grandkids: Rose, Jaydon, Jett, Juston; Great Grandkids: Omari and Mac and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Lillie Mae and Ernest Dennis and siblings WC, Elijah, Joseph, and Ernestine.

Bible Baptist Church was a second home for Brother Roosevelt and Sister Sandra. Sitting in the pews singing hymns, reading and studying the KJV Bible, and thoughtfully listening to Pastor Matties' sermons were the highlights of their week. He was looked upon as a spiritual leader in the church and in the home.

Roosevelt lived an adventurous and socially full life. In his hometown, many knew him as their legendary football star who would go on to do great things. In JobCorp, many knew him as a tradesman, a traveler, and a maker of fond memories. In the UAW, many knew him as a hard worker, a friend, and a proud member of the union. He came to Belvidere with Jobcorp to work at Chrysler from 1968 until retirement in 1998.

"Roose" never met a stranger. He became friends and was friendly to anyone he met. You could catch this fun-loving and playful man in his garage making beautiful furniture, behind the grill making tasty barbeque, sitting by the water catching various fish, or at McDonalds with his "R.O.M.E.O (Retired.Old.Men.Eating.Out) club". His annual barbeques, that started with the jobcorp/Chrysler friends and turned into his birthday barbeques, were full of food, joy, conversations, games, and love. They were not to be missed and will never be forgotten.

In his button ups, white new balances, and his hats he would joyfully hand out both candy and pinches to all he cared about. Roosevelt was truly a reliable husband, father, friend, grandpa, and person. There will truly never be one like him, and he will be forever missed by many.
