November 8, 1931 – April 26, 2021
Roland Schendel, went home to be with God on April 26, 2021. He passed peacefully at home after a long battle with Dementia. Rollie was loved by many and will be dearly missed. He was born November 8, 1931, in Mound, Minnesota, son to Floyd and Beatrice (Trafton) Schendel. He grew up in Illinois. Rollie was an Army veteran spending most of his service stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. Rollie met his wife Irene (Jackson) Bridgeman in 1983 and they married in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 21, 1984. Rollie had three children of his own from his previous marriage. Steve (Karen) Schendel, Patricia (Ken) Shaw and Christine (Brent) Brumfield. With his marriage to Irene Rollie, gained 4 step-daughters, Kathryn Jonas, Florence (Michael) Decker, Diana (Thomas) Pulcini and Kimberly (Paul) Rabe. Rollie had 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Irene blessed Rollie with 8 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great grandchildren; and 4 step- great great grandchildren. Rollie worked for Dean's in Chemung for several years and finished his career with the Harvard Post Office as a rural mail carrier until his retirement. Rollie loved traveling with his wife, Irene. He loved Chicago Bears football, Chicago Cubs baseball, Nascar, being outside, and a little gambling. He also enjoyed bluegrass music and spending time with family.
He is survived by his children; four step-daughters; his full and step grandchildren; great -grandchildren; great -great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary (Jackson) Adair; sister, Adel (Neil) Hunt; and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife, Irene (Jackson) Bridgeman- Schendel; parents, Floyd and Beatrice (Trafton) Schendel; brother, Gayland Schendel; and one grandson, Paul Schendel.
A walk -through visitation will be at 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Anderson Funeral & Cremation Services. 218 West Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, Illinois 61008. Social distancing and masks will be required.A graveside will follow with military honors at 11:30 a.m. at Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere. Rev. Scott Nellis will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family to establish a memorial bench in his and Irene's honor. The family would like you to wear your favorite sports shirts in honor of Rollie.
