Obituary

Roger A. Yurs, 62, of Rockford, died Monday, May 19, 2008 in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on December 18, 1945 in Belvidere, Ill., the son of John and Mamie (Hulstedt) Yurs. He has resided in the Belvidere and Rockford area most of his life. Roger married Sue R. Mills in Belvidere on March 18, 1966. He was employed as a mechanic for Mueller-Pinehurst Dairy for 38 years retiring in October 2007. He served his country during the Vietnam Era as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Roger was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. He was a founding leader of the Boy Scouts Troop 224. Roger was a former Belvidere Fire and Police Commissioner. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything that involved the outdoors but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and family. Roger graduated from Belvidere High School Class of 1963. He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Rockford; a daughter, Tammy (Mark) King, Belvidere; and son, Todd (Andrea) Yurs, Neoga, Ill. 4 grandsons, Tim, Kaleb and Justin Yurs and Jordan King; and a brother, John Yurs, Fitchburg, Wisc. He was preceded in death by parents, a sister, Anna Swanberg and brother, Timothy Yurs.
