Rodney Lee Briggs, 64, of Belvidere, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 in Swedish American Hospital, Belvidere. Born November 15, 1946 in Belvidere, son of Delbert Briggs and Eileen (Shilling) Leitzell. Married Sheila Sommerfield on December 20, 1969 in Belvidere. Faithfully served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Worked as a cabinet assembler for Belvidere Company for 42 years. After retirement Rodney worked as a groundskeeper for the Bel-Mar Country Club for two years. Member of Hope Lutheran Church. He loved to fish, hunt, read, garden, and watch TV and won "Garden of the Month" for two years. He doted on his grandchildren and had special nick names for all of them. Survivors include his loving wife Sheila, daughter Rhonda (Nick Dailey) Hunt of Belvidere, son Shane of Belvidere, grandchildren Brandon, Katelyn and Nolan, step-mother Betty Briggs of Belvidere, sister Sharon (Edmund) Vail of Belvidere, brother Robert (Beverly) of Westby, WI, numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, a brother, and grandparents.
