Robert W. Smith, 78, of Lake Summerset and formerly of Belvidere, died Monday evening, June 5, 2006 in his home after a lingering illness. Robert was born November 2, 1927 in Putnam County, MO the son of Claud and Sarah (Jackson) Smith. Robert served our country in the US Navy from 1944to 1946. He married Marjorie J. "Tina" Irwin in Muscatine, IA on March 1, 1948. Over the years, Robert worked for the Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America retiring after 34 years of service. Robert and Tina moved to Lake Summerset from Belvidere in 1991. He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed fishing, and spending time with his beloved dog. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring tractors with his son. Survivors include daughter, Connie Ruth (John) Arco of Lake Summerset, IL, Bonnie Sue (Dale) Moss of Belvidere, IL,; son, David Robert Smith, Lake Summerset, IL; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.; sister, Betty Ziegenhorn of Mercer Co.
