Robert L. Smith, 87, formally of Belvidere IL, passed away November 15, 2018, at the Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, IN. He was born November 28, 1930 in Kokomo, IN, the son of Melvin and Dessie (Foshie) Smith. Robert married the love of his life, Joyce Elliott, on April 1, 1950 in Kingsport, TN. He worked and retired from Shappert Engineering as a crane operator after 30 years of service. Robert was passionate about fishing, woodworking, and watching NASCAR. Robert enjoyed his time at his Florida home, spending time on the beach and going for walks. His corky sense of humor and loving care will be missed by all.

He is loved and missed by his children, Diana Weber, Kimberly (Tim) Hyson, Larry (Kay) Smith; grandchildren, Tricia (Brandon) Strege, Brian (Julie) Weber, Robert Hyson, Rachel Hyson, Shera Smith, Ryan Smith; great-grandchildren, Parker, Eden, Hazel, Wyatt, Aiden, Jordan, Lilliana; siblings, Dollie Dishner, Jack Smith, Jay Smith, Betty Shacklee, Joan (Darris) Nickols; special friend, Norma Ross as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; parents; Melvin, Dessie; son, Robin Smith; brother, Ed Smith and son-in-law, Neil Weber.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 26, 2018 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL. A visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to service. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial to the American Kidney Foundation.
