Robert E. Horn, 73, of Rockford, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, in the emergency room of Swedish American Hospital from injuries received as a pedestrian in a traffic accident earlier that evening. Robert was born March 27, 1935, in Rockford, the son of Frank J. and Elsie M. Svensson Horn. Robert grew up in a Rockford Swedish neighborhood and looked forward to the annual Swedish Smorgasbord at his mother's Swedish lodge. A 1953 graduate of East High School, Robert played bassoon in the school orchestra, and became a strong weightlifter. He served in the U.S. Army in 1953-54 and later enjoyed reading, visiting the Rockford Public Library, and listening to classical music. Bob loved his cats and enjoyed going to the Stockholm Inn with its Swedish décor and Swedish cuisine.Bob is survived by his brother Frank (Erma) Horn and niece Rachel (Brian) Rawson of Cherry Valley, niece Sarah (Roger) Johansson in South Carolina, and nephews Joel (Nancy) Horn in Arizona and Paul (Patricia) Horn in Tennessee, as well as 12 great-nieces and –nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, half-brother John F. Horn, and sister-in-law, Roberta Horn.
