Obituary

Robert L. "Bud" Henk, 89, of Belvidere, Illinois passed away Sunday morning, May 8, 2016, at Maple Crest Care Centre in Belvidere after a short illness. He was born on July 16, 1926, in Belvidere, Illinois, the son of August and Minnie (Menge) Henk. Bud served our country in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed in Panama. Bud married Jeanne O'Malley in Belvidere on April 12, 1958; she preceded him in death on June 6, 2004. He built his own home in 1965, where he and Jeanne raised their family. Bud enjoyed a fulfilling career with Strike at Reitsch's bowling alley (later re-named Ten Pin Lanes) in Rockford. He retired in 1996 after 36 years. Bud made Immanuel Lutheran Church his spiritual home, where he was a former head usher. Bud has been a part of the Immanuel family his entire life and his confirmation photo is on display in the fellowship hall. Bud enjoyed bowling and served as secretary/treasurer for the Belvidere Men's Bowling league and was a regular bowler well into his 80's. He was instrumental in founding the Belvidere Youth Bowling Association when his children were young and he was inducted into the Northern Illinois Bowling Hall of Fame in 1996. He also enjoyed baseball, and with his wife Jeanne was an avid Cubs fan. Bud coached in the Belvidere Youth Baseball league as well as founded an amateur baseball league in his younger years.

Robert "Bud" Henk is loved and will be missed by his children, Gary Henk of Carlisle, PA and Peggy (Arthur) Debnam of Muskego, WI; grandchildren Ryan and Aspen Henk and Bailee Debnam. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Bud was also very blessed to make a great friend in Betty Menge, who was there for him in good times and bad during his final years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 16, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, IL, with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL 61008. Burial will be at the Belvidere Cemetery. Memorials can be given in care of the church or Lutheran Child and Family Services.
