Robert (Bob) Burnell Luedtke
Belvidere, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 8th, 2014 peacefully at his home. Born on August 28th, 1923, son of Fred and Nancy (Vowles) Luedtke in Belvidere, IL. Bob attended Belvidere High School where he graduated from in 1941 and proudly enlisted in the military in 1943. Bob proudly served in the 265th Field Artillery Battalion in the Army. He served proudly in World War II from 1943 through 1946 and fought bravely in the Battle of the Bulge. Bob was honorably discharged in 1946 and he then moved back to Belvidere, IL. He married Violet Hyser in 1947 and became a proud father to son Bradford (deceased 1961), and daughter Roxanne. Bob was employed by the US Post Office for 30 years, was an avid reader, loved collecting antiques and was an accomplished woodworker who enjoyed carpentry as a hobby. Bob was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, National Association of Letter Carriers. Bob was the most loving and devoted father and husband for his entire life and continued to be so even during his last moments. He loved spending time with family and delighted in watching his daughter, granddaughters and great-granddaughters grow. Bob is survived by his wife Violet, his loving daughter Roxanne Larson, his granddaughters Brooke Larson- Moore (Joel) and Katy Haun (Will) and two great-granddaughters and predeceased by parents, Fred & Nancy, sister, June Barr and adored son, Brad. Special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice and dear friend, Shirley Griffin. Bob was beyond a doubt one of the most giving, selfless and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. He now can join his beloved son in Heaven but will be dearly missed by his family who will continue to cherish the wonderful memories with him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp. Visitation from 10-11 AM before the service. Burial at Belvidere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Northern Illinois Hospice and the VFW Foundation.
