Richard J Babcock, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home on June 9, 2018. He was born April 13, 1928 in Beloit, Wisconsin the son of Claude and Mary Frances (McCabe) Babcock. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School. He married Lorraine Fink on January 21, 1950 in Beloit.
Richard worked as a painter for Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 1990 after 25 years. Richard was also a dairy farmer until 1966. He was 4-H leader, member of North Boone Booster Club, Umpired Pony League and also played fast pitch softball having pitched a no hitter on September 16, 1949. Besides enjoying watching baseball, he was also a Green Bay Packer fan. Richard was very involved with all his families many activities. He made his spiritual home at St James Catholic Church in Belvidere.
Richard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine; ten children; Patti (Mike) Key, Richard B. (Sue) Babcock, Katherine (Charles) Balmes, Louise Babcock, Philip (Tina) Babcock, Peter (Sherri) Babcock, Therese (Mike) Crookshank; Judy (Rick) Hutchinson; Paul (Christie) Babcock. As well as 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Robert (Jean) Babcock. The family would also like to acknowledge the many foreign exchange students who were part of their family, especially Lonk Guzman from Ecuador.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles Babcock; daughter Mary Frances, granddaughter Mary Kate, sisters Beth Partridge, Marion Babcock, Florence Popanz; and daughter-in-law Neva Babcock.
Funeral services will be held at St James Catholic Church, 402 Church Street, Belvidere, on Friday June 15, 2018 at 12:15 pm. A visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut, Belvidere on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm. Burial will be at Highland Garden of Memories.
Memorials may be given to family to establish a scholarship in Richard's name.
