Obituary

Raymond John Totz, 95, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Maple Crest Care Center, Belvidere, Illinois. He was born in Boone County, on April 15, 1919, the son of Eva J. (Haywood) and William F. Totz. Raymond was the second youngest of eleven brothers and sisters. He lived his life in Belvidere; leaving a legacy of patriotism and family with those he loved. He attended Belvidere High School leaving to join the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He served heroically in the Pacific Theater. Ray was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Belvidere. He served on countless committees in the school and church. Lifetime member of John Hugo Kaiser VFW Post 1461 and Boone Post #71 American Legion. Charter Member and Past Commander of Belvidere AmVets. Raymond married Esther A. (Johnson) of Marengo, on March 30, 1945, in Santa Ana, California. She preceded him in death in 1962. He was employed by Hamm's Brewing Company in sales for twenty years; as well as numerous other positions. He retired from the Illinois Transportation Department in 1981. He was always involved in sports. Playing softball in the Industrial League, in Rockford and the City League in Belvidere. Member of the Men's Bowling Association, and a league bowler for many years. After retirement he enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing, and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Mae (Negus) Totz and three sons: Ronald (Sue) Poplar Grove, Gary (Estele) Rockford, and Curtis of Chandler, Arizona, numerous nieces and nephews and seven grandchildren. Granddaughter, Jessica was a special grandchild and faithful visitor.

Visitation will be at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck Wheeler Chapel, 218 West Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, Illinois, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Allan Buss and Pastor Eugene Wille to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Genoa Road, Belvidere, Illinois.
