Belvidere, IllinoisRamona "Mona" J. (Casey) Thornton, 79, of Belvidere, Il died January 12, 2009 from a long illness in Belvidere. Mona was born June 30, 1931 in Rockford, II the daughter of William D. and Alice M. (Crawford) Casey. She married Robert Thornton on February 16, 1946. They were the parents of four wonderful children and amazing grandparents to many beautiful grandchildren. She was a much loved sister and aunt. She belonged to the American Legion Boone Post 77 Auxiliary and the Belvidere Moose Lodge 295 Auxiliary. Mona worked a number of years at Pacemaker and the United Bank of Belvidere. She also worked for her niece and nephew Marty and Lyn Prather, at their family business. Mona was active in all of her family members' lives and never missed a chance to hug you. She was a devoted wife that never left her husband's side. Her family was the most important part of her life.Mona is survived by her brother William (Herta) Casey of Rockford; sister, Lila Vohlken of Holland, MI; daughter, Diane (Randy) Hall of Belvidere, IL; son, Larry (Mona) Thornton of Loves Park; son-in-law, Phil Resendez of Rockton, IL; ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.Mona is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert; daughters, Linda Resendez and Cynthia Culvey and infant daughter Mary Alice Thornton; grandson Jeff Fowler and nephew Billy Casey.Mona was much loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed.
