Phyllis J. Cunningham, 89, of Caledonia, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 in Maplecrest Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Born March 24, 1919 in Grand Forks, ND, daughter of Alfred and Ella (Coulson) Brown. She was married to Richard Luhman in July, 1939 he died in 1966, she than married Al Smith he preceded her in death. She then married Paul Cunningham in Las Vegas, NV on April 4, 1978. Phyllis was employed as a LPN for St. Joseph's Hospital in Belvidere. She later moved to California and worked in the Health Care System there. She is a member of the Caledonia Congregational Church; Boone County Homemakers Association and the Low Vision Support Group at the Keen Age Center. She was a former member of the Emblem Club in California and Arizona. Phyllis graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing with a LPN certificate. She is survived by her husband, Paul, of Caledonia; two daughters, Sonjia (Jim) Olstad, Caledonia, and Carol Lusz, Belvidere; Daughter-in-law, Jan Luhman, Belvidere; seven grandchildren, Kristin (Patrick) Ciabattari, Bella Vista, AR, Eric (Angie) Olstad, Stoughton, WI, David Lusz, Belvidere, IL, Rich (Kelly) Lusz, Belvidere, IL, Kellie (Jeff) Wirth, Sun Prairie, WI, Amie Stumpf, Belvidere, IL, Darin (Amy Harris) Luhman, Belvidere, IL; thirteen great-grandchildren, a brother, Gaylord (Ginger) Brown, Fallbrook, CA and brother-in-law, Jay (Nelva) Cunningham, Colorado Springs, CO., many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to two husbands, Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dick Luhman; a grandson, Shane Luhman; two sisters, Martha Warcup and Mildred Sullivan; eight brothers, Walter, William, Claude, Eldon, Howard, Lawrence Brown and two others in early childhood.
