Opal Myrtle Louise Winston, 90, of Belvidere, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, in Maple Crest Care Center. She was a Belvidere resident for more than 12 years, coming from Chicago. Opal was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Hulda Anderson Strom. She married J.B. "Jake" Winston on Nov. 2, 1940, in Chicago; he died in 1984. Opal was employed as a food service worker by the Chicago Public School System for more than 20 years. She was a member of Belvidere First Baptist Church where she worked on the newsletter; she was also a member of the Chicago Schools Food Service Union and was active in the Keenage Center. Survivors include son, Gerald (Gayla) Winston of Chicago; daughters, Marilyn (Don) Humphrey of Lake Geneva, Wis., Donna (Jon) Leone of Belvidere and Pamela Sue Smith of Chicago; grandchildren, Ricky (Cindy), Dawn (Earl), Kari (Floyd), Gary, Jonnie (Claudine), Danielle (Morgan) and Tara; four great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.Predeceased by parents, one brother and one sister.
