Obituary

Norman (Nubbs) Lawrence Lawton, 86, loving husband, dad and grandfather, passed away on October 2nd 2010 at 10:45 pm after a long heart illness with his family at his side. He was born on September 19th, 1924 in rural Genoa, Illinois to Wilson and Emma (Wolters) Lawton. He attended Fairdale and Belvidere schools. Married Margaret Schwebke on September 6th, 1941. He was a lifelong truck driver, retiring from Lake Shore Liquors, as a member of Teamsters Local #325, joining Teamsters Retirees Club. He also belonged to the American Legion, A life member of the VFW Club #1461, where he was a past Commander, 1977-1978 and also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, of Belvidere. He was an avid fisherman and loved to do odd jobs around the house. He made many fishing trips to Canada and Wisconsin with family and friends. He also loved to go camping and boating. He served in the U.S. Army from January1945-46 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre where he received the Good Conduct Medal. Norm loved racing stock cars in his younger years, racing on dirt tracks in the area. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Midge) of 69 years. He and Margaret had three children, a son, Larry (Sally)Lawton, and two daughters, Linda (Gary) Roush and Carole (Jim) Headrick. He had 11 grand-children, Mark Roush, Mike (Joan) Roush, Dawn (Dave) Halsey, Chris (Kelly) McKibben, Steve (Tonya) Lawton, Brian Lawton, Jerry (Sonia)Cooper, Eddie (Brandie) Hamilton, Randy Hamilton, Denise Olson and Jennifer Headrick. He also had 20 Great-Grandkids and 2 Great Great-Grandkids. He is predeceased by his parents, Wilson and Emma Lawton, brothers, Laverne and Meryle, sister, Loretta and son Larry and two grandchildren Sheila and Billy. He is survived by a very special sister-in-law, Phyllis (Jim) Miller, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
