Obituary

Norma Jane Johnson, 91, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Norma was born on August 29, 1935, to Juanita (Wells) and Homer Shook. She married the love of her life, Guy Johnson, on February 23, 1957, and together they went on to have three beautiful children.

Norma was a loving and kind woman whose greatest joy was her family. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren. She loved attending their sporting events and cheering them on. She was also a woman who found beauty in the simple things in life. Norma enjoyed gardening, tending to her rock garden, and collecting rocks wherever she went. If she found a rock she liked, she would bring it home and add it to her collection. She also enjoyed collecting angels and could often be found watching the Game Show Network.

Norma was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Belvidere. She also enjoyed giving back to her community and volunteered at Maple Crest Nursing Home, where she helped with hair care and in the kitchen. A breast cancer survivor, Norma participated in numerous breast cancer walks and relays, supporting a cause that was especially meaningful to her.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Don (Colleen) Johnson, Lisa (Gary) Rangel, her grandchildren, Barbara (Mike) Eckwall, Amy (Steve) Sebring, Adam (Cara) Johnson, Jessica (Eric Brunner) Torres, Alisha Rangel, Danielle Williams, Katelyn (Ryan) Scott; as well as 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, with another great-great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Turner; sisters-in-law, Mary Pinnow and Yvonne Shook; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Johnson; her parents; her siblings, Jerine, Virgil, Shirley, Joan, Carol, Dean, Fred, Gordy, Ron, and Marie; her son, Robert Johnson; her grandson, Eric Johnson; her granddaughter, Melissa Johnson; and her grandson-in-law, Justin Williams.

Norma's loving heart, gentle spirit, and devotion to her family will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, laughter, and the many memories she created with those around her will remain a lasting part of her family's lives.

Funeral services for Norma will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Faith Baptist Church in Belvidere, officiated by Pastor Jeremy Weary. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place following the service at Highland Garden of Memories.
