Obituary

Nancy J. Kehoe, 79, of Belvidere, IL, passed away peacefully, June 14, 2021, at her home. Nancy was born August 5, 1941, the daughter of John and Helen (Hamm) Lapthorne. She was raised in Chicago and graduated from Tuley High School. After graduation, she worked at Bankers Life and Casualty, a career that spanned 25 years. She married Robert S. "Bob" Kehoe on April 15, 1961, in Chicago. After Bob and Nancy moved to Belvidere, she began a second career as a paraprofessional at Belvidere School District 100. Her spiritual home was Saint John's United Church of Christ.

To say Nancy was an active volunteer is a dramatic understatement. Her lifelong involvement in her church was inspirational. She taught Sunday school over six decades. Throughout that time, there was not a church activity that she was not in charge of at one time or another. Her activity in the T.O.P.S. community was as much about helping newcomers as it was about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Her 28 year sobriety journey is where her impact rippled throughout the community. She positively impacted 100's of sponsees, often at the beginning and during their path to sobriety. She counseled with warmth, understanding and sometimes a much needed verbal kick in the pants. She built deep relationships, was quick to befriend, and never met a stranger. In spite of her battle with cancer, her energy and zest for life never diminished.

The love that she shared with her husband, Bob, was epic. Her family thought it was normal, but observations from friends and family told us otherwise. Her pride in her children and their families, and her love for her great grandchildren was intense.Nancy passed peacefully, too soon, but on her terms, while on her deck enjoying a cup of coffee and chocolates.

Nancy is loved and missed by her children, Michael (Susan) Kehoe of Clifton, VA, Kathleen (Kenny) Rogers of Rockford, IL, Bob (Kim) Kehoe of Centreville, VA; grandchildren, Nicole (Juan) Morales, Kenny (Ashley) Rogers, Rebecca Rogers, Tricia Kehoe, Kaylee (Sarah) Powell, Megan Kehoe, Zachary Kehoe (Camilla Ruyon), Shelly Kehoe; great grandchildren, Oliver Williams, Lennon June Rogers, Hayes Powell, and Brooks Powell; brother-in-law, Tom (Grace) Kehoe; and many nieces and nephews.Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brother, John Lapthorne; and brother-in-law, John Kehoe.

The celebration of Nancy's life will take place at a later date presided by Rev. Muriel Morley Jahn, pastor of St. John's U.C.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nancy's name can be given in care of St. John's U.C.C., Box 794, 401 N. Main Street, Belvidere, IL 61008.
