Myron James "Jay" Smith, 78, of Southampton, Massachusetts, passed peacefully in his sleep at home on December 16, 2025. He was born April 18, 1947, to James Francis Smith and Eula Jean (Lawfer) Smith. Myron graduated from Belvidere High School in 1965 as Valedictorian and from University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois with a bachelor's degree in 1969. He earned two master's degrees which assisted him in pursuing a career with laser research and development after serving as an officer in the Army. Myron married his best friend Linda Kay (Johnson) Smith in the summer of 1969. Together they formed a loving and devoted couple. Myron had a passion for all things mechanical and had an extensive Erector Set collection.  He was a past president of a national Erector Set club. He loved to work on his older cars like his father as well as lawn tractors and equipment. He was loved and will be missed by many.
Myron will be missed by his wife Linda as well as his brother, Kerry and sister-in-law Dawn. He is preceded in death by his parents,  James and Eula as well as his in-laws James and Emma Johnson. A private burial with family will take place. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
