Mildred E. "Millie" Allen, 95, of Belvidere, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in her home following a brief illness. She was born on August 8, 1918 in Belvidere; the daughter of Oscar and Alma (Kjell) Nelson. She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1936. Mildred married Bernard F. Allen in Belvidere on May 1, 1943. She was employed as an office worker for Central Rubber Co. Member of First United Methodist Church and member and volunteer for Boone County Historical Society. Millie was a terrific cook, baker and card player. Before Macular Degeneration took her eye sight, she enjoyed cross-stitching and bird watching. She is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Allen, Denver, CO and Carol (Ken) Zarzynski, Buffalo Grove, IL; 2 grandchildren, Daniel (Shannon Myers) Zarzynski and David Zarzynski. Several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents, husband; sister, Marjorie Campbell and 2 brothers, Kenneth and Everett Nelson.
