Gloria was born with music in her soul and grew up listening to her father's band, The Foot Warmers.  There was always a tune being played in Gloria's home and always a family musical group practicing; the Swail's Family Band, and then the Stardusters.  Gloria and Donald loved, encouraged, and supported any way they could, their twin sons, David and Dana's musical talents and their bands; the Esquires and Gulliver.

It was also important to Gloria to give back to the Belvidere Community.  She was a member of; the First Methodist Church of Belvidere Sunshine Circle, Sorosis Club, Women of the Moose, Cub Scout Leader, St. Joseph Hospital Thrift Shop, 1983 Chamber of Commerce Secretary of the Year, Mother's March of Dimes Chairmen 1967-1974, Election Judge, and Lifetime member of the Boone County Historical Society.  Gloria also enjoyed camping, bowling, and playing double pinochle.
