Michael Robert Whalen, 77, of Poplar Grove passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 6, 2023, in his home. He was born July 5, 1945, in Belvidere to Joseph and Helen (Behlmer) Whalen. Mike graduated from Belvidere High School Class of '63. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was over the moon with the World Series win in 2016! Mike was also a proud shareholder and fan for the Green Bay Packers. Sales came natural for Mike starting young in the family business with The Whalen Agency in Real Estate and Insurance to farm equipment for Wallem International and finishing his sales career at Manley Ford, Lincoln, Mercury. He loved spending time with his family, never missing a sporting event for Joe and Kim. Mike enjoyed sharing stories, especially his adventures as a youth on Madeline Island. He enjoyed his coffee time out at the Boone County Family Restaurant and golfing with Kenny Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rita; daughter, Kimberly (Edward) Branom; son, Joseph (Laurie Capitosti); grandchildren, Allison (Matt Geissman) Sanford, Tyler (Rachel) Sanford, Michael Whalen, Alexa Pollace, Mattie Whalen; grand-dog, Jet; brother, Pat (Evie) Whalen; sister, Mary Whalen; sister-in-law, Bonnie Whalen; numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents, Joe and Helen; in-laws, Bob and Faye Manuel; brothers, Dan and Larry; and nephew, Sean.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13 from 5-7 PM at Anderson Funeral & Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere IL 61008. The family is establishing a memorial fund in Michael's memory.
